Una Para Cada Una was presented as a public art installation in Washington Square Park for International Women’s Day 2020, in conjunction with Women Strike NYC.

The work began as a series investigating femicides in the Dominican Republic, Wildriana Paulino’s country of origin. Addressing femicide as the normalized killing of women for being women, Paulino created linked clay forms shaped like rounded veils to memorialize murdered women.

Invited by Women Strike NYC, Paulino installed a version of Una Para Cada Una directly on the earth as a linked spiral in Washington Square Park. The project connected public space, collective mourning, violence against women, and the relationship between the abuse of female bodies and the abuse of the Earth.
