Scaling Nature was a group exhibition at Bronx River Art Center curated by Gail Nathan, featuring large-scale mixed-media installation works by Michele Brody, Linda Cunningham, and Wildriana Paulino.

The exhibition opened Bronx River Art Center’s 2023 exhibition season and focused on visual art operating at, or reflecting on, the monumental scale of the natural world. The exhibition framed the artists’ works in relation to nature, environmental change, climate concerns, material transformation, and the embodied experience of scale.

Wildriana Paulino exhibited Maternity Figure / Figura materna, an installation made from handmade paper containing hair, soil, and wool. Suspended from the gallery’s twelve-foot ceiling to the floor, the work formed a ten-foot-diameter spiral that visitors could walk through, creating an intimate relationship between the body, translucent material, and natural light.
